Two lucky Canadian lottery players started the new year with more than just fireworks.
The Lotto 6/49 draw took place on January 1, 2025, and the Gold Ball prize was worth $10 million. Although no one won the jackpot, someone did win the guaranteed White Ball prize. According to PlayNow, someone matched the winning number 12959444-01, netting themselves an impressive $1 million prize. That lucky ticket was sold in Merritt, BC.
The winning numbers for the Lotto 6/49 Classic Draw were 02, 10, 13, 26, 35, 46, and 08, but no one won the $5 million prize. However, one lottery player won the second prize after matching five of the six winning numbers and the bonus number. As a result, one lucky winner from Quebec is now $199,316.60 richer.
The third Classic Draw prize will be split between 68 lottery players, each receiving $1,230.80.
No one won the Classic Draw Extra prize worth $500,000 or the Encore prize worth $1 million.
The previous draw was a life-changing one for another lottery player.
On December 28, 2024, a Canadian lottery player matched the Gold Ball winning number 35353629-01. The winner won a life-changing jackpot worth $54 million, and the lucky ticket was sold somewhere in Western Canada.
Before that, the last time anyone won the Lotto 6/49 jackpot was on October 9, 2024, when six strangers from Quebec won the Gold Ball prize worth $32 million.
The group purchased a Formule Groupe ticket, which was a winner. As a result, each member is now $6.4 million richer. Read their full story here.
