Police watchdog called in after motorcycle rider seriously injured in Kelowna

The Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO BC) has been notified after an incident in Kelowna saw a motorcycle rider seriously injured earlier this week, the RCMP says.

Police say a motorcycle passed an unmarked police vehicle on Highway 97 around 5:30 p.m. Monday. The rider’s “driving behaviour” led the police to attempt a traffic stop. However, police say, the motorcycle did not stop.

A short time later, the motorcycle reportedly lost control and crashed on the off-ramp to University Way.

A man was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Mounties say the IIO BC is now looking into police actions in the incident. The Kelowna RCMP says it is investigating the man’s driving behaviour.
