Banana python returned to business owner, youth thieves escape charges

An $800 banana python has been returned to a Kelowna business owner after it was stolen by three youths.

The Kelowna RCMP says the snake was taken from a business along Highway 33 West in the city’s Rutland neighbourhood on April 15.

With help of CCTV footage and community partners, police say they were able to identify three youths involved in the incident. On April 17, the snake was found and returned, unharmed, to its owner.

In consultation with the owner, police say no criminal charges are being pursued.

“One of the things the owner wanted to ensure is if the youth were remorseful,” said Const. Fed Angulo, a Community Youth Safety Officer with the Kelowna RCMP.

“In my dealings with the youth, I could confirm they were indeed remorseful for their actions and did regret causing the incident.”
