No injuries after early-morning fire at UBC

Vancouver Fire Rescue Services tells CityNews no injuries have been reported after a fire on the UBC campus early Saturday morning.

A fire on the 13th floor of a Ross Drive building near Birney Avenue brought out around nine fire trucks shortly after midnight.

The fire led to an evacuation of all the building’s residents, but people were able to go back home around 3:30 a.m.

The streets around the building were closed off while crews worked the blaze, but they have since reopened.

“[It is] undetermined as to what caused it, but it definitely started on the deck,” Vancouver Fire said.

It didn’t end up reaching a second alarm.
