Protestor arrested after alleged assault of police officer

Vancouver police say a person has been arrested after allegedly assaulting a police officer at a demonstration.

Officers claim the incident occurred on March 2 when a group of protestors was trying to occupy the Granville Street Bridge.

In an attempt to “stop the group from advancing,” the VPD says “officers formed a line near the on-ramp of the bridge” but adds protesters pushed at police “and tried to break through.”

In the scuffle, police claim a protester “struck” a constable in the face and “used a small stick with a flag attached to poke at her eyes.”

The suspect reportedly fled on the day of the incident but has since been found.

Police say no charges have been recommended and their investigation is ongoing.
