PNE reveals name of new outdoor amphitheatre

Almost three months after announcing that Freedom Mobile has purchased the naming rights for the new amphitheatre on the PNE grounds, the name of the venue has been revealed.

The theatre will be called the Freedom Mobile Arch.

The name is a nod to the venue’s arch-shaped clear span wooden roof that’s part of the $900 million redesign.

The name was chosen through a public voting process, with the other options being Freedom Mobile Amp, Freedom Mobile Rise, and Freedom Mobile Place.

The PNE says the winning name got more than double the votes that the other options got.

In addition to the amphitheatre naming rights, part of a 12-year agreement between the PNE and Freedom Mobile announced in May includes a partnership on other properties including the summer fair and Fright Night.

Construction on the Freedom Mobile Arch is expected to be completed in the summer of 2026.

The project has been in the planning stages for several years. According to the PNE, the project will showcase British Columbian and Canadian engineering and building products while maintaining environmental sustainability standards.

The building’s concept was revealed in April 2023. It will be able to hold around 10,000 people.

The venue will be the site of the PNE’s Summer Nights Concerts as well as other performances.
