Vancouver ranked as one of the cheapest cities to eat Michelin-star food

If you’ve ever wanted to dine at a Michelin-starred restaurant, you may want to explore the fine dining options in Vancouver.

In a new report, Vancouver ranked as one of the least expensive cities for fine dining compared to other Michelin restaurants worldwide.

Chef’s Pencil, an international food magazine, released a report on global fine dining costs in 2024 after analyzing over 3,500 Michelin-starred restaurants in over 40 countries and territories.

In the report, Canada ranked in the middle tier with the most expensive tasting menu costing an average of $220, which was on par with France.

Vancouver ranked as the second cheapest city for fine dining. The average cost to dine at one of the city’s Michelin-starred restaurants is $155.

“The Canadian city has a fantastically diverse dining scene and has consistently ranked as one of the best foodie destinations in the world,” the Chef’s Pencil report said.

“While locally it’s known for sky-high real estate prices, when it comes to fine dining, it’s quite a bargain (from a global perspective).”

The report also highlights Michelin restaurants in Toronto are almost twice as expensive compared to Vancouver.

Vancouver has nine Michelin-starred restaurants, including AnnaLena which is a contemporary restaurant on W 1st Ave.

The restaurant’s current tasting menu for $148 includes hickory smoked tuna and dry-aged duck breast.

There’s also St. Lawrence Restaurant on Powell St which serves classic French dishes.

Its May menu has dishes like eclair pastries filled with duck liver mousse, beef tartare and Hokkaido scallops.

According to the Chef’s Pencil report, the most expensive countries for Michelin dining include Denmark ($314) and Hong Kong ($266) while the priciest cities are Copenhagen ($443) and Macau ($283).

If you’re a foodie who wants to experience fine dining, Vancouver is the place to do it with several incredible restaurants to choose from!
