This week in Vancouver: Steamy temperatures, Playland’s new ride, celeb sightings and more

Hey Vancouver! It’s a new week, and it’s going to be a hot one. There’s a lot going on in Vancouver so here’s you’re weekly check-in so you’re up to date on what’s going on in the city.

From the sweltering summer heat (and how to cool down in it) to the new rollercoaster getting attention at Playland – summer fun is the theme of the days ahead.

Here’s what you need to know if you’re in Vancouver from July 8 to 14.

THINGS TO KNOW

β˜€οΈ HEAT IS ROLLING IN

The summer heat is here, and Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for Metro Vancouver and other parts of B.C., with a “a moderate risk to public health.”

Elevated temperatures are expected through Tuesday night, with daytime lows in the mid-30s early this week. “If you are in an overheated area, seek a cool place such as a tree-shaded area, splash pad, misting station, or air-conditioned spot like a public building,” the warning says.

The forecast shows highs of 22 and 23, for Thursday and Friday respectively, and then a sunny weekend ahead.

🌊 SAFE SWIM BEACHES

If you feel like cooling down in the heat, then make sure to go to the right place. Vancouver Coastal Health has a convenient map that shows you which city beaches are safe to swim in, and which to avoid thanks to high levels of E. coli.

Before splashing around on the sandy shores of the city, make sure to give this map a good look.

THINGS TO DO

🎒 NEW ROLLERCOASTER AT PLAYLAND

Vancouver is now home to Canada’s fastest launch coaster, as of this weekend, and if you need a boost of adrenaline then add it to your plans this week.

The new PNE attraction is called the ThunderVolt, and it looks as intense as the name suggests. The PNE website says this ride takes you “through a supernatural environment with extraordinary animals, graphics and lighting that pulses as the ride system charges, leading up to its launch.”

The wild ride opened up this weekend and took Playland-goers on a quick but intense journey.

CELEB NEWS

πŸ” SETH ROGEN IS EATING OUT IN VAN

Seth Rogen was spotted out and about last week, at two different Vancouver restaurants. Maenam and Lunch Lady both got visits from the celebrity, so you’ll want to keep an eye out for him this week if you’re a fan.

When he’s home in Vancouver he’s often bringing attention to tasty local eats, so hopefully more recommendations are to come!

🎀 MICK JAGGER IS OUT AND ABOUT

Mick Jagger was in Vancouver this weekend for a stop on The Rolling Stones tour and was seen out at Vij’s, a popular local restaurant.

The next stop on the tour isn’t until July 10, so he might still be in town early this week, before heading to L.A. for the next show.

Wishing everyone a good week! πŸ‘‹
