If you’re looking for things to do in Vancouver, you’ll want to check out this eclectic neighbourhood that’s home to the coolest street in Canada.
A Vancouver street was just named among the coolest in the world, and it offers one of the most colourful shopping, dining and nightlife districts in the city, with restaurants, specialty stores and a vibrant live music scene you’ll want to see for yourself.
Located in the Drive neighbourhood, Commercial Drive was named one of the best streets in the world by TimeOut.
The magazine named 30 of the coolest streets in the world to visit right now, with Commercial Drive being the only Canadian avenue to make the list.
Ranked the fifth-best in the world behind streets in Melbourne, Hong Kong, Texas and Buenos Aires, Vancouver’s Commercial Drive beat out global destinations like Fifth Avenue in Park Slope, New York City, East 3rd Street in Los Angeles and Gerrard Street in London, England.
“In a city of rapid change, Commercial Drive remains defiantly ungentrified,” says TimeOut, noting that it “boasts a family-owned bowling alley, a plethora of coffee shops (try finding a seat on a nice day), no fewer than four used book shops and three record stores – and more pizza (and pizza slice) joints than you can shake a pepperoni stick at.”
Commercial Drive, which can be found in East Vancouver, is also home to Vancouver’s Little Italy, where you’ll find a number of Italian restaurants, shoe stores, espresso coffee bars, and other businesses selling Italian goods.
Places to visit on Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive is home to so many unique restaurants, with Italian, Caribbean, El Salvador, Nepal and Mexico cuisines in the mix.
For a unique spot for your next outing, check out Havana Vancouver, a Cuban-inspired restaurant with a 60-seat theatre inside the building.
If you’re looking for a Canadian classic, Belgian Fries is known as the top spot for poutine on the Drive.
And for a sweet treat, look no further than Dolce Amore, the street’s “premier gelato spot” that offers an always-shifting lineup of flavours.
For those just looking for a drink, the Drive is home to a number of tap houses and bars, including Bar Corso, Junior’s Pub & Grill, and the Charlatan.
If you’re looking to shop, the street is home to bookstores like Pulp Fiction, which offers an “unrivalled selection of new, used, & out-of-print books,” vintage clothing stores such as Mintage, and specialty stores like Bonerattle Music and The Drive Skate Shop.
