Amusement parks are one of the best summer attractions and one park in Vancouver is preparing to open an exciting new ride.
Playland is open for the 2024 season, but visitors will have to wait a little bit longer to take a ride on what will become the fastest rollercoaster of its kind in Canada.
The B.C. amusement park is set to open the ThunderVolt, which is an electric-launch rollercoaster.
While an official opening date has yet to be announced, Playland says it will be sometime in July.
A Playland spokesperson tells Narcity ThunderVolt, built by world-renowned Italian ride design and construction company Zamperla, will be located where the former Corkscrew coaster used to be.
“We’re expecting the ride to be incredibly popular, and an amazing juxtaposition to our classic wooden coaster,” Laura Ballance said.
ThunderVolt will consist of three cars that carry 12 passengers at a time.
The ride will go through a “supernatural environment with extraordinary animals, graphics and lighting that pulses as the ride system charges, leading up to its launch,” the PNE website says.
The three-car train will blast off through an illuminated tunnel and up a steep incline before an 18-metre drop.
The ride is one that’s dedicated to thrill-seekers as it’s listed as “extreme” on the PNE website.
Ballance says once the park has a firm date on when the coaster will open, they will put out an announcement.
Playland officially opened for the 2024 season on May 18.
The park will be open on select days in May and June from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and select Saturday evenings in June.
The park will then be open Wednesday to Sunday in July and August from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. and select Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
