Filming of the hit show The Last of Us has transformed downtown Vancouver into post-apocalyptic Seattle.
Season 2 of the HBO show, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, is currently filming in the B.C. city and fans are sharing photos and videos of what the set looks like.
The series has been filming in and around Vancouver since February and it’s incredible to see the show come to life with props and the change in scenery.
Videos shared online show actors dressed as soldiers and military vehicles driving along a downtown street in Vancouver.
Another post on X shows photos of military vehicles and an information sign for the Seattle Center.
According to another tweet, part of the filming happened around Hastings and Main Street on May 4.
The show is just days away from filming in Nanaimo on Vancouver Island. Photos show the downtown area transformed into a post-apocalyptic scene out of the video game.
Nanaimo News Now reports crews have transformed Diana Krall Plaza into a set and several streets have been closed to accommodate the prep work.
The outlet adds that many businesses in the area will be closed beginning May 10 between Terminal Ave. and Bastion St. ahead of two days of filming which will begin on May 13.
The Last of Us Season 2 has been filming in B.C. for the last couple of months and fans have shared various locations where they’ve spotted sets being built.
The blockbuster show was spotted filming at a huge property in a forest in Mission back in March. Fans called it “The House” online and said it looked almost identical to the one in the game.
Another set was seen in Fort Langley where abandoned cars with Wyoming plates were parked in front of homes in a residential neighbourhood.
The series was also spotted filming in Kamloops and North Vancouver.
In March, Gabriel Luna, who plays Joel’s younger brother Tommy in the show, confirmed Season 2 was briefly filming in Alberta, where Season 1 was filmed.
“We’re shooting season 2 of The Last Of Us and the beauty of this land is hard to replicate so we had to come back to Alberta,” Luna said during a Calgary Flames game.
According to Creative BC, The Last of Us, which is using the code name Mega Sword, will be filming in B.C. until mid-August.
While the show will bring back Ramsey and Pascal as Ellie and Joel, Season 2 will also see several new cast members.
Top Gun: Maverick actor Danny Ramirez will play Manny, “a loyal soldier whose sunny outlook belies the pain of old wounds and a fear that he will fail his friends when they need him most,” as reported by Variety.
Isabela Merced, Young Mazino, Kaitlyn Dever, and Schitt’s Creek actress Catherine O’Hara have also joined the cast.
