I took BC Ferries to these mineral pools by the ocean on Vancouver Island (PHOTOS)

Any weekend that involves jumping on BC Ferries and going over to Vancouver Island is usually a recipe for a memorable trip. Full of unbeatable ocean views, the journey there alone never ceases to impress me.

One of the most memorable though, was a weekend getaway I spent in Victoria, cozying up at Oak Bay Beach Hotel and soaking in their oceanside mineral pools.

During the somewhat bleak winter last year, it was the perfect escape from Vancouver — not too far, relaxing, and incredibly scenic.

Stepping out on the sun deck of the ferry, watching as tiny islands go by with no snow in sight, it’s easy to convince yourself winter is a thing of the past.

After docking in Swartz Bay, it was a quick 30-minute drive to Oak Bay, where you’ll know from the jump that a relaxing weekend is ahead of you.

The hotel in Victoria has been ranked as the top hotel in Canada by Condé Nast Traveler previously, and there’s no doubt how it achieved its accolades once you arrive.

Right on the ocean, the hotel has an old-school luxury feel that makes you feel pampered. It’s a pricey stay, at around $300+ a night, but it’s hard to beat the amenities here.

There are three restaurants in the hotel, along with a spa and mineral pools, giving you the perfect excuse to hide away here all weekend.

Aside from venturing out for a hike and a little walk around town, that’s exactly what we did during our trip.

The day here can be spent lounging around the pool area, where you can order food and drinks, and soak in the views. At night twinkle lights illuminate the pools, and you can rest beside the fires in between dips.

After a weekend filled will relaxation here we left on Sunday feeling revived, but sad to see Oak Bay in our rearview mirror.

If you’re taking a trip to Victoria and want a grand experience, this place won’t disappoint.
