Finn Wolfhard Shares What He Loves About Vancouver & How ‘Twilight’ Impacted His Career

Stranger Thingsactor Finn Wolfhard gave his hometown of Vancouver a lot of love during an appearance on the Hot Ones show.

The actor shared stories from his childhood in B.C., including his most memorable school field trips, his all-time favourite Vancouver Canuck and how the Twilight movies, which were filmed close to his house, impacted his career.

Wolfhard’s interview dropped on February 29 in which host Sean Evans asked the actor what he meant when he said he couldn’t imagine making music in anything other than a “Vancouver state of mind.”

“Vancouver, I feel like is a place where I can get bored and just go out in nature and walk around and it’s very inspiring,” the Canadian actor said.

“I can get very easily inspired I think in Vancouver because I can just walk around and kind of think a lot.”

Wolfhard then went on to share what was special to him about Neptoon Records, which is a record store in Vancouver.

“That record store is amazing because the guy who owns it has this huge vintage poster collection,” Wolfhard explained.

“If you go in the basement he has all these incredible first print band posters he’s just been collecting since the 1960s so there’s really great stuff and history underneath.”

Evans also brought up that Vancouver is a known city for a lot of film productions, and asked Wolfhard if that helped kickstart his career.

“How, if at all, did growing up in the Hollywood of Canada feed into your hunger to entertain,” Evan asked.

That’s when the Ghostbusters: Afterlife star shared that the Twilight filmswere shot close to his childhood home and he thought it was so cool seeing the movie trailers. He says that experience impacted how he looked at auditions.

“Getting an audition as a kid was very tangible because they would shoot so many commercials so I had friends in elementary school who would just show up to open casting calls. It was a very normal thing,” Wolfhard said.

The Hot Ones host wasn’t done asking about Wolfhard’s life growing up in Vancouver. The next question was about what the GOAT (greatest of all time) school field trip was for a kid growing up in B.C.

“Science World was incredible,” Wolfhard said before sharing another neat experience.

“There’s this gold mining place called Britannia Mines […] it’s like an hour away and you kind of feel like a pirate kid because you’re going through dirt and mining for fool’s gold.”

Finally, Wolfhard was asked about his all-time favourite Canadian athlete.

“[Robert] Luongo was such a huge figure for us growing up. He’s so synonymous with Vancouver because of his time with the Canucks and that’s who I always think of when I think of Vancouver athletes.”

Even thoughWolfhard no longer lives in Vancouver full-time, he has previously said he still considers it his “home base.” He’s often spotted at different restaurants in the city.

His last visit was on February 19, when he stopped by a Wak Wak Burger food truck.

Wolfhard and the Stranger Things cast are currently filming Season 5 in Atlanta, Georgia. A release date hasn’t been announced yet.
