From a block party to festivals, Metro Vancouver has a variety of activities and events to help you enjoy your time off without overspending.
Here are eight free things to do in Vancouver this weekend, from June 14 to 16.
5X Blockparty
Price: Free admission
When: June 15 from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Address: Surrey Civic Plaza, 13450 104 Ave, Surrey
Why You Should Go: The 5X flagship music festival featuring some of Surrey’s finest artists is back this weekend. The event will include a concert, food vendors, art installations and a vendor village. Artists who will be performing at the Blockparty include Punjabi-Canadian hip-hop artist Prabh, Toronto-based singer and rapper Jassa Dhillon, Mississauga-based rapped AR Paisley, Surrey-based Punjabi singer Raman Bains and Vancouver-based DJs Shalv and Surbee.
General admission to the event is free, but you should RSVP online if you plan on going. You can also pay for a VIP upgrade.
Capilano Mall Foodie Fest
Price: Free admission
When: June 15 and 16 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Address: Capilano Mall, 935 Marine Dr, North Vancouver
Why You Should Go: The Capilano Mall Foodie Fest is back for its fourth year this weekend. The free outdoor event will feature live music, complimentary face painting, and an artisanal food market.
Karaoke Sundays at Chill x Studio
Cost: Free admission
When: June 16 from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Address: Chill x Studio, 2270 Manitoba Street, Vancouver
Why You Should Go: Chill x Studio in Vancouver’s Mount Pleasant neighbourhood is hosting its weekly Karaoke Sunday event this weekend.
The free event is open to seasoned performers and karaoke first-timers. So join the party on Sunday, enjoy some drinks and belt out your favourite tunes.
Great Grandview Garage Sale
Price: Free
When: June 15 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Why You Should Go: Searching for some home items, antiques or do you simply love a bargain? Vancouver’s biggest garage sale event is happening on June 15. This event has had over 200 sales in past years and the website says they expect a big turnout in 2024.
Shipyards Night Market
Price: Free
When: Every Friday night until September 13, 2024
Address: 19 Wallace Mews, North Vancouver
Why You Should Go: Head to the Shipyards Night Market in North Vancouver on Friday for some amazing food, live performances and artisan vendors. This popular event is a great way to get the weekend started.
Dancing on the Edge Festival
Price: There are free events
When: Festival runs until June 22, next free event is on June 15 at 12 p.m.
Address: Beaconsfield Park, 3215 Slocan St, Vancouver
Why You Should Go: The 2024 Dancing on the Edge Festival is on until June 22. The event features over 30 innovative performances featuring artists from across Canada and some of the shows are free.
The next free event is on June 15 at Beaconsfield Park and will feature a one-hour collective dance meditation led by Kelly McInnes.
Welcoming the Sun
Price: Free admission
When: June 15 from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Address: Gulf of Georgia Cannery National Historic Site, 12138 4th Ave, Richmond
Why You Should Go: Celebrate Indigenous culture and fishing history at the Welcoming the Sun event on June 15. This celebration will include Indigenous music, storytelling, performances, food trucks, activities, and more. The event is timed with the National Indigenous Peoples Day and the summer solstice which is on June 21, according to Destination Vancouver.
Perogy Making Bee
Price: Free
When: June 15 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Address: Holy Eucharist Cathedral, 501 4th Avenue, New Westminster
Why You Should Go: If you’re a perogy enthusiast then you may want to join the Perogy Making Bee this Saturday. Everything will be provided for you to make the delicious Polish dumplings as well as coffee and treats to keep you energized.
