Canada’s largest marathon, the BMO Vancouver Marathon is happening Sunday, May 5, 2024, winding its way through the city on a spectacularly scenic course. This year’s event welcomes a record of over 22,000 registrants and invites the community to cheer on runners from over 60 countries. Sold out months in advance, each race distance offers a uniquely scenic experience:
- When: Sunday, May 5, 2024
- Half Marathon 7:00am start
- Marathon 8:30am start
- 8KM 9:30am start
- Where:
- The Marathon and Half Marathon start near Queen Elizabeth Park and finish in Downtown Vancouver.
- The 8KM starts within Stanley Park on Park Drive near Lagoon Drive.
- The Kids Run will do a lap of Lost Lagoon and start/finish at Ceperley Playground at Second Beach.

Vancouver Marathon Finish Line & Block Parties
RUNVAN is hosting Block Parties on Race Day at English Bay Beach, in Kitsilano, at Devonian Harbour Park, and Cambie Street. Everyone is invited to come out to enjoy live music, fun activities and snacks, and cheer on runners as they complete Vancouver’s only Marathon. There will be free giveaways across the Block Parties, at the Finish Line and Street Festival. Prizes up for grabs include Brooks Running gear, Marsquest sunglasses, Stance socks, and Fitness World.
Free Expo
Free and open to the public, the event’s Health, Sports & Lifestyle Expo runs pre-race Friday (11:00am to 7:00pm) and Saturday (10:00am to 5:00pm) at the Vancouver Convention Centre (999 Canada Place). The Expo features health exhibitors, new gear, free samples, and is the largest Expo of this kind in Canada.
Meet lots of great vendors featuring the latest fitness gear, health and performance tips, and taste-test a vast array of free samples. Experience energizing activations and displays from top lifestyle and running brands. The Elite Panel on Saturday, 12:00pm features past champs Chris Balestrini and course record holder Yuki Kawauchi of Japan, Olympians Krista Duchene, Natalia Allen, plus guest hosts and Canadian Olympians Evan Dunfee and Natasha Wodak.
About the Marathon
Over $250,000 have been raised this year by runners for charity and over $16M combined through RUN4HOPE, the charity program of the BMO Vancouver Marathon. The charity aims to raise funds for social impact and community good, and foster a spirit of community celebration.
Recognized by Forbes, CNN, USA Today and others as one of the top destination marathons in the world, the event is renowned for its unique scenic views including snow-capped mountain ranges, cherry blossom trees, and 70% shoreline views. The event began with 32 finishers in 1972, and traditionally sells-out with runners from 65+ countries annually.
