Vancouver police investigate ‘serious assault in Downtown Eastside

Vancouver police officers are investigating a “serious assault” on the Downtown Eastside on Friday morning.

Police tape is up and officers have cordoned off an area near East Hastings Street and Main Street.

Police said they were called to reports of a man in critical condition just after 1:30 a.m.

B.C. Emergency Health Services said three ambulances were called to the scene. Emergency medical treatment was administered to the man and he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition.

Investigators believe the suspect and victim knew each other.

No one has been arrested in the case so far but Vancouver police said there is no public safety risk.

Anyone with information is asked to call VPD’s Major Crime Section at 604-717-2500.
