We are under two weeks away from WWE Survivor Series in Vancouver, and Daily Hive got to chat with superstar Sami Zayn about the upcoming show, where he revealed a fascinating past with the city involving the Sedin twins.
Survivor Series: WarGames takes place in Vancouver at Rogers Arena on November 30. While Vancouver has hosted other WWE events in the past, none were as big as this one is set to be.
For those unfamiliar with Zayn, he’s a Canadian who hails from Quebec and is a Montreal Canadiens fan. He’s currently considered a “face,” which means a good guy, but during a previous visit to Vancouver, he was very much a heel, and some words he shared with the Vancouver audience involved Daniel and Henrik Sedin.
Zayn mentioned that he hasn’t spent much time in Vancouver outside the handful of shows the WWE has done here.
“I remember going there as a bad guy once, and I got a lot of boos. They were really loud when I talked a little trash about the Sedin twins,” Zayn recalled, adding that it happened around the time the twins had their jerseys retired in 2020.
“I actually got in trouble that week because our segment went three or four minutes heavy.”
Zayn said his going over time directly resulted from the heat he was getting from the crowd for disrespecting the Sedin twins. “Sometimes it’s hard to suppress that; you want to soak it in,” he said, likely referring to the chorus of boos.
“I was getting such crazy amounts of heat. I was getting such a reaction from the crowd.”
I had the great joy of speaking to #WWE‘s Sami Zayn ahead of Survivor Series in #Vancouver.

He couldn’t remember exactly what he said, but it was something along the lines of it being a joke that their jerseys were retired or that it was the biggest or best thing this city had to offer.
Despite his character poking fun at the Sedin twins and the Vancouver crowd, he had some sympathy for the fortune or misfortunes of the Canucks, particularly in 2011.
“I still think it’s a shame. I don’t want to open a sore spot here, but that Game 7 loss. Those guys deserved it,” Zayn said of the Canucks and Sedin twins.
“The Canucks are looking good now for what it’s worth.”
Looking forward to the Survivor Series, Zayn has been thrust back into the spotlight. In the main event, he’ll compete alongside one of WWE’s biggest stars, Roman Reigns.
It’s been a long journey for Zayn up to this point. If you’re a fan of the WWE, you’ll know that Zayn and Reigns had a bit of a falling out, but recent events have put them back together, along with Jey and Jimmy Uso.
Sadly for Cody Rhodes’ fans, it appears that the American Nightmare will not be attending the show, barring any last-minute surprises that have yet to be announced.
