“What a mess”: Power outage disrupts SkyTrain service for second day in a row

SkyTrain riders were left confused after their morning commute was disrupted on Tuesday morning due to a power outage at Waterfront Station.

TransLink announced on social media shortly after 8 am that Expo Line service between Waterfront and Burrard Station was suspended and trains would terminate at Stadium-Chinatown.

It was the second power outage in less than 15 hours at the terminus station. Though power has since been restored, TransLink warned that some residual gaps and delays may continue.

A number of passengers were also left confused by the instructions on the train and social channels.

“Just want to clarify: the last announcement on the train said all trains will stop at Burrard, rather than Stadium-Chinatown, with no mention of a shuttle train. Can you advise which is the correct message?” asked Taylor on X.

“The newest announcement says Stadium-Chinatown is the end. What a mess.”

Urban development specialist Bob Ransford also wondered why a disruptive power outage occurred twice on the SkyTrain line in a short span of time.

TransLink told Daily Hive that its technicians are looking into the cause of the outages at Waterfront.

“We’re doing all we can to address the issue,” added Thor Diakow, senior media relations advisor.
