West Coasters consider cross-border dating for the right person

Depending on how close to the border you live, if you’re in the dating scene, you may have noticed apps trying to match you up with people from Washington, and it seems that many West Coast residents are doing cross-border dating.

A discussion that took place on the Bellingham subreddit reveals how many people are taking part in dating between the Washington and BC border, and the reviews are mixed.

“Why do apps keep sending me 80% [of] peeps from Vancouver, BC?” Reddit user freckledtabby asked.

They added, “Would you be willing to cross an international border for a date?” Many not only answered yes but also shared their experiences in cross-border dating.

“I think you would drive more than 25 miles or cross the Canadian border for the right person,” one person suggested.

Based on the discussion, NEXUS is a must if you are in a relationship with someone who is located across the border.

“I’m in a relationship with someone in BC and cross the border every weekend. I have NEXUS, and it’s very simple. No burden whatsoever.”

They weren’t alone.

Others said it wasn’t so easy, but it appears they made it work.

Some suggested it was actually easier for a Bellingham resident to date a Vancouverite than someone from Seattle.

“It’s honestly easier to drive up to Van than it is to drive down to Seattle.”

While some stated the drive wasn’t worth it, others suggested that it meant they hadn’t found the right person.

Amtrak might be an option for those who don’t want to drive.

“My partner and I did cross-border long distance (Vancouver-Bham) for six years before I moved down here, and we got married in 2016! We got super well-acquainted with the Amtrak station. It’s certainly not ideal, but for us, it was worth the trouble.”

Tinder suggests that folks looking to meet singles in Vancouver often look to other Canadian cities even further away than Bellingham, including Toronto, Calgary, and Montreal.
