Vancouver’s weather forecast suggests a soggy end to 2024

The parade of powerful Christmas storms may have finished passing through BC this week, but Vancouver’s weather forecast is still calling for a grey and wet end to 2024.

Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) forecasts that the last weekend of December will begin with some sunny breaks on Friday, December 27, but still with a chance of showers.

You’ll want to get your umbrellas ready because rain is expected to begin overnight with up to 20 mm of precipitation. And the pattern continues over the next few days.

Raincouver continues on Saturday with another projected 10 to 20 mm of precipitation before tapering off to cloudy conditions with a chance of showers.

And you better pack your umbrella and Gore-Tex as clouds and showers plan to stick around right until New Year’s Eve. You can at least stay warm and dry with free public transit before heading to your end-of-year celebrations.

Weather conditions are staying wet for the start of 2025 with periods of rain on New Year’s Day and rain forecasted for January 2. So those planning on taking part in the Vancouver Polar Bear Swim will want to bring an extra-warm towel.

Travellers can take solace that the series of wind storms that forced dozens of cancellations between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island has passed. Environment and Climate Change Canada’s marine wind warning forecasted very strong southeast winds at 70 km/hr over open water in the Strait of Georgia, gusting to up to 100 km/hr.
