If you’re attending the Taylor Swift concert in Vancouver next week, it might be best to take transit since parking rates are out of control, particularly if you plan to park around the stadium area.
According to Indigo’s parking website, event parking costs over $150. It doesn’t help that the first night Swift is in town on December 6 happens to be the same night as Cirque’s Echo event and a Canucks game.
“It’s going to be madness,” someone commented on Reddit.
The rates don’t change for nights two or three, with parking rates at $151.90.
Prices have caught the attention of Vancouver residents online, who are venting about the exorbitant rates and offering solutions to those looking for alternatives to the sky-high prices.
Some folks in this Reddit thread, however, are unsurprised by the pricing.
“Price gouging at the most overpriced event in history… Insanity is being surprised at this lol,” one Redditor said.
Someone else echoed that sentiment, saying, “This is the biggest event in Vancouver in years, and parking is going to be in extremely high demand. What’s insane is planning to drive and park to the Taylor Swift concert rather than taking transit.”
Even if you’re taking transit to the show, the Stadium-SkyTrain area could still be a bit of a mess due to the aforementioned mix of events, particularly on day one (December 6).
Alternatives that won’t break the bank
Some parking places are less expensive than the event rate at BC Place or Rogers Arena.
Most of the alternatives involve taking transit. Many suggestions were to park at a different SkyTrain station, as many offer free street parking nearby. Even the pay rate near other SkyTrain stations would be pennies compared to what they’ll charge at BC Place and Rogers Arena for event parking.

While some suggest this is price gouging, others agree it’s just simple supply and demand. This will probably be the highest concentration of concertgoers, including Canucks fans, all year in the stadium area.
We contacted Indigo about the rate increase, but they referred us back to their website and would not comment on the price spike.
Also, be warned: If you’re planning on booking a rideshare to the concert, expect surge pricing. Even if you schedule your Uber or Lyft in advance, we checked the app, and you can already see a rate spike.
What are your plans for parking and commuting there if you’re going to the concert? Let us know in the comments.
