The Wanderlust Travel Awards results are out, and Vancouver has made quite an impression on international travellers this year.
Wanderlust magazine released its 23rd annual Reader Travel Awards this week, ranking the world’s most desirable countries and cities.
Over three million votes were cast by 168,000 passionate, globetrotting readers, and Vancouver is officially crowned one of the Top 10 cities to visit.
This comes just days after Vancouver was recognized as one of the best cities in the world with a high quality of life.
Vancouver was named the sixth most desirable city in the world and the top in North America. Tokyo placed first, followed by Singapore and Rio De Janeiro.
Wanderlust magazine was established in the UK in 1993, and in 2005, the company launched the Wanderlust Travel Awards.
It’s no surprise that Vancouver made this list since we’re known for our year-round outdoor activities, such as skiing and snowboarding, hiking, and ziplining.
Canada and BC also made their mark in the 2024 Wanderlust Travel Awards. Canadians will be proud to know that their home is the second most desirable country to visit, and British Columbians can boast that our province is the third most desirable region for tourists.
This isn’t the only Canadian win on the list.
We also placed eighth in a ranking of most desirable destinations for adventure. New Zealand took the gold medal, followed by Peru and the US.
In another ranking that highlights Canada’s natural beauty, it placed eighth as a most desirable destination for wildlife and nature. The country is home to some of the best national parks in the world.
