Vancouver Korean bistro closes after five months, new sushi spot takes its place

The restaurant industry in Vancouver can be unforgiving, and some spots are just not given enough time to shine before they close for good.

Toronto-based new-wave Korean bistro Horangee Sikdang, which opened its doors in July 2024, has closed just five months later.

The restaurant has yet to make an announcement of the closure, but it is currently listed as Permanently Closed on Google.

The spot was best known for its tasty items like tteokkkochi (rice cake skewers), seaweed soup, pork katsu, truffle potato pancakes, and more. This location was also the previous spot of Caribbean restaurant The Loft Lounge.

However, a new restaurant has already moved into the space.

Lucky Sushi Co. opened its doors in December 2024 and is serving up what it calls “sushi with a little twist.”

“Our rice is made with Koshihikari premium short-grain rice. We carefully prepare the rice to maximize the flavour and texture. Each piece is topped with garnishes that pair well with each fillet. We finish all our sushi with house-made sweet soy reduction. Our sushi will melt away with umami flavour with hint of sweetness,” said the restaurant on Instagram.

Other menu items include oshi sushi and rolls and Sapporo soup curry udon.
