Vancouver Grey Cup getting closer to a BC Place sellout

The BC Lions won’t be playing in it, but a massive crowd will take in the Grey Cup in Vancouver in less than two weeks.

Grey Cup organizers say the championship game, set for November 17, is nearing 50,000 tickets sold. That leaves only about 5,000 seats remaining. Capacity at BC Place is 54,500 for football.

The cheapest available seat is $128.20, which is cheaper than the cheapest price tag ($208) we saw on Ticketmaster back in July.

There’s more to the Grey Cup than just the game. Events for the Grey Cup Festival begin on Wednesday, November 17, inside and outside the Vancouver Convention Centre. Organizers expect 500,000 people to check out the festival in the lead-up to the big game.

“Part of the Grey Cup’s genuine charm is the way in which CFL fans from all across the country celebrate together regardless of who is playing on championship Sunday,” said 2024 Grey Cup Festival executive director Riley Wiwchar.

The Grey Cup Festival features a mix of free and paid events and activities, including concerts, team parties, and even a zipline.

The team parties will be held from November 14 to 16 at the Convention Centre. Sam Roberts and The Trews highlight the Saturday night concert, also at the Convention Centre, on November 16.

What remains to be seen is who will play in the championship game. It’ll either be the Winnipeg Blue Bombers or Saskatchewan Roughriders from the West Division against the Montreal Alouettes or Toronto Argonauts from the East. Montreal (2023), Toronto (2022), and Winnipeg (2021, 2019) have won the last four Grey Cups.

This year’s Grey Cup will mark the 17th time Vancouver has been the host city and the first since 2014. Attendance was 52,056 that year to see the Calgary Stampeders beat the Hamilton Tiger-Cats. BC Place drew 54,313 in 2011 when the hometown Lions beat Winnipeg.
