Two people were killed in a crash in Surrey early Monday morning.
Surrey RCMP has said the overnight crash on Highway 99 that led to ongoing delays through South Surrey is still under investigation, and the victims have not been identified.
When first responders arrived in the northbound lane of the highway between 16th Avenue and 32nd Avenue, the rolled-over vehicle was fully engulfed in flames. The driver and the passenger were found dead inside.
“The Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team (CCIT) has assumed conduct of this investigation and the Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) is assisting. The investigation is in the early stages and investigators are working to identify all factors that led to this fatality,” Surrey RCMP said Monday around lunchtime.
“Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dash camera footage from the area is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.”
Traffic in the area is expected to be impacted for some time, and the eastbound 16th Avenue left turn lane onto Highway 99 remains closed. Use an alternate route.
