Two dead in crash that shut down part of Highway 1 in West Vancouver

Two people have been killed in a late-night crash along Highway 1 through West Vancouver.

According to West Vancouver Police, around 11:40 pm on Wednesday, “a vehicle travelling eastbound in the westbound lanes near Westport Rd caused a head-on collision.”

The crash resulted in the deaths of two people, while other passengers were sent to hospital. At this point, it’s not known how many people were injured.

The incident has forced the closure of westbound Highway 1 and is also causing issues for drivers heading for a ferry, as access to the Horseshoe Bay Ferry Terminal is blocked.

The crash has caused major delays along the highway and, at this point, there is no estimated time for the reopening of westbound traffic.

As of 7:45 am Thursday, westbound traffic on Highway 1 is closed at Westport Road, with alternative routes available via Exit 4 and Marine Drive.
