The top 10 coldest places on Earth right now are ALL in Canada

December in Canada can be chilly, and parts of the country have been hit with some extremely cold temperatures over the past couple of days.

According to a new weather report from WX-Now, which tracks the world’s most extreme weather, Canada topped the top 10 coldest places on the planet on Tuesday, December 17, 2024.

The coldest place on the planet today is Deadmen Valley, Northwest Territories, with a brutal -44ºC. Second place goes to Norman Wells, Northwest Territories, at -41°C, while third and fourth place also goes to spots in Northwest Territories, with Lindburg Landing and Yohin, sitting at -40°C and -39°C, respectively.

A spot in British Columbia and Alberta made the top 10 as well, with Fort Nelson and High Level in eighth and ninth place with temperatures of -36°C and -35°C Tuesday morning.

Extreme cold warnings are currently in place for portions of Alberta, Northwest Territories,  and Yukon. Environment and Climate Change Canada warns that in some regions, “temperatures near and below minus 35 and moderate winds up to 15 km/h giving wind chill values near minus 50.”
