Tarmac troubles at YVR lead to runway closure and flight impacts

A plane went off the runway early Tuesday morning at Vancouver International Airport, leading to ongoing delays for one area of the airport.

According to the airport, the incident happened just before 2 am on the north runway, when a CargoJet flight operating a PrimeAir aircraft overran the runway on the eastern side.

“YVR Fire and Rescue attended. There were no injuries reported and the CargoJet crew of three were safely deplaned. Teams are on site assessing the situation,” the airport shared on X.

With safety and security as the top priorities, the north runway is closed as of Tuesday morning.

Passenger aircraft and flights may be impacted until the runaway can be brought back into operation.

“We encourage passengers to check with their airlines for current flight schedules and status. We will provide further updates on the situation regularly and as new information becomes available. We appreciate the work of those responding to the incident and everybody’s patience,” YVR shared on its website.
