The family of a young woman who was injured in Vancouver has launched an online fundraiser to support her journey.
Mamie Laverock is known for her roles in When Calls the Heart, Spotlight on Christmas, and A Series of Unfortunate Events. Her family says she was critically injured after falling from the fifth floor of St. Paul’s Hospital in Vancouver.
According to a GoFundMe organized for her benefit, Laverock was staying in a secure unit of the hospital when she fell from a balcony walkway.
Providence Healthcare, which operates St. Paul’s Hospital, said it cannot comment on specific patient matters to protect privacy.
“Our hearts go out to the patient, family, and all affected by this event, and we offer our best wishes for a full recovery,” Shaf Hussain, a spokesperson for the health authority, told Daily Hive.
The fall happened on May 26, when Laverock was receiving intensive treatment following a medical emergency in Winnipeg on May 11, according to the GoFundMe.
Now, Laverock has been moved out of St. Paul’s, and the family shared a photo from her Facebook account of her clutching a teddy bear.
She’s undergone two 11-hour surgeries since the fall, as well as two shorter ones.
“Mamie is ‘ doing well’ comparatively to when she arrived Doing well because she has survived these extensive surgeries. She is enduring tremendous pain and continues to not give up,” the family wrote on the GoFundMe. “Our daughter loves her life and loves her family and is fighting hard everyday.”
The GoFundMe has raised nearly $40,000 to support Laverock as she heals from her injuries.
