A driver heading the wrong way down the oncoming traffic lane near the central library in downtown Vancouver is getting roasted on social media.
This particular incident occurred earlier this week at around 7 am, according to the user who posted pictures on Facebook.
Pictures and video show a yellow cab at a standoff with a regular sedan driving the wrong way on Robson Street toward Homer. The cab, heading the opposite way, awkwardly pulls up right in front of the vehicle.
In a video posted in the same thread, we see the vehicle maneuver around the cab and turn left on Homer Street at a red light.
One user suggested that driving in Vancouver is difficult.
“Driving in downtown is challenging for many people. Drivers often get confused by the one-ways,” someone said.
That opinion didn’t sway people, though he’s not wrong in that seeing people driving the wrong way on one-way streets in downtown Vancouver happens every now and then.
“The stupidity amazes me,” another Facebook user said.
Most are blaming so-called dumb drivers for incidents like these, while others are blaming newcomers who may not understand the road rules or are used to driving on the left side of the road. Someone even went so far as to say, “It should be illegal for tourists to drive here.”
One person responded, “They aren’t tourists. That’s the sad part.”
“Another normal day where people shouldn’t have a license,” said another group member.
We’ve actually published several stories over this past year about people driving the wrong way, including one on a busy BC highway.
Many Vancouver residents have been clamouring for more enforcement on the roads.
Almost every light cycle at Cambie and 7th there are multiple cars turning left long after the advanced turn has gone off and the walk sign is on. If only there was a @VancouverPD officer around to enforce this sort of thing. pic.twitter.com/Z8gxyZVJJG

Even the RCMP was caught in the crossfire of these attitudes when it did a brief blitz of HOV lane violators, leading folks to question why it wasn’t happening more. Pedestrians also have a lot to say about bad driving around Metro Vancouver.
How do you feel about the state of driving in Metro Vancouver? Are you exposed to drivers not obeying the rules of the road often? Sound off in the comments.
