RCMP foil attempted North Vancouver cheese heist worth thousands

A man who attempted to steal nearly $13,000 worth of cheese had his heist foiled by North Vancouver RCMP.

The RCMP announced the news in a media release, stating that they are seeking public help in capturing the suspect.

The suspect fled after officers saw him in a stairwell connected to Whole Foods in North Vancouver. They’ve also shared a video of the suspect:

On September 29 at around 4 am, RCMP officers were conducting patrols near East 13th Street when they came across a cart full of cheese.

Despite finding the stolen cheese, RCMP noted it couldn’t be resold after it left the fridge. Staff assessed that the cheese was worth a lot of cheddar, $12,800 to be exact.

Officers believe that the suspect had broken into the Whole Foods and was in the process of stealing the cheese until officers got to the scene.

“People often ask what our officers do when they are not directly responding to active service calls,” said Constable Mansoor Sahak, media relations officer for the North Vancouver RCMP, in a media release.

“Our response to them, as shown by the work of these officers, is that we are often proactively patrolling high crime areas to prevent and deter crime from occurring. This is an example of intelligence-led policing using information provided directly by our crime analysts to respond to emerging crime trends in North Vancouver and beyond.”

North Vancouver RCMP asks anyone with info about the attempted cheese theft to call 604-985-1311, quoting file #2024-19909. If you want to remain anonymous, you can call 1-800-222-TIPS.
