Since RJ Barrett joined the Toronto Raptors, he’s reached a new level of stardom. But he’s still occasionally starstruck.
Though he was drafted by and spent the early years of his career in New York with the Knicks, the Canadian forward has played the best basketball of his career since coming over to Toronto last season.
It’s elevated him to being among the key leaders of a team for the first time in his career, perhaps the trajectory he saw himself on when he was drafted third overall in 2019.
But it turns out that even an NBA star like Barrett can still get starstruck from time to time.
During last night’s 123-103 loss against the Los Angeles Lakers at Crypto.com Arena, Barrett found himself face-to-face with Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, best known for playing Jaime Lannister in Game of Thrones.
And though he was mid-celebration of scoring a basket on the Lakers, TSN’s cameras caught the Raptors mouthing a “Game of Thrones?” to the Danish actor.

Barrett had to do a full double-take to ensure that yes, he wasn’t just seeing things. While Game of Thrones hasn’t been on the air for five years now, it’s clear that the show’s cultural impact has continued to stay in the public eye, helped in no small part by the spinoff series, House of the Dragon.
Coster-Waldau, meanwhile, has stayed involved in a series of projects since the show’s finale, including the Apple TV series The Last Thing He Told Me, as well as starring as himself in the docuseries An Optimist’s Guide to the Planet.
