Taylor Swift fans visiting from out of town will get a healthy dose of typical Vancouver weather thanks to a rainfall warning issued for night one of the Eras Tour.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) issued the rainfall warning on Friday morning, saying it expects up to 70 mm of the wet stuff to fall between this evening and Saturday morning in parts of Metro Vancouver.
Vancouver, Burnaby, New Westminster, Coquitlam, and parts of the Fraser Valley, such as Abbotsford and Mission, are among the affected areas.
ECCC is warning folks to be careful driving tonight. Water could pool on the roads, and localized flooding may occur due to blocked drains.
The weather agency has also shared some information about why this big dose of rain is heading our way.
“A robust and rain-laden frontal system will slide down the BC Coast today,” ECCC states.
“Rain, at times heavy, will begin late this afternoon for Howe Sound and the Sea to Sky and this evening for the remainder of the regions.”
The heaviest rain isn’t expected to ease up until late Saturday morning after the frontal system passes through. ECCC warns that localized flooding is possible in low-lying areas. ECCC is also cautioning drivers that if visibility is reduced, they should slow down, watch for tail lights ahead, and be prepared to stop.
Traffic will likely be a gong show in downtown Vancouver tonight. On top of the Swift concert, there’s also a Canucks game and a Cirque du Soleil show.
Night two of the Eras Tour is expected to be accompanied by more rain, but the sun should return on Sunday, the final night of the tour.
