PoMo Express: The epic holiday pop-up inside an antique rail car

The holidays are quickly approaching, and along with that come some pretty sweet holiday pop-ups. One that caught our eye will transform a 1920s antique rail car — the Venosta — into a food and libation destination.

Located in Port Moody at the PoMo Museum, patrons will venture inside the antique rail car to enjoy some holiday-themed food and drinks.

Menu items include snacks and light dishes like a classic chicken liver mouse (with spiced apple chutney and crostinis), albacore tuna crudo (with blood orange, fennel, green olives, and fermented chili), and rigatoni “alla gricia” (with guanciale, pecorino romano, and black pepper), just to name a few.

When it comes to drinks, you’ll find plenty of fun holiday libations as well, like Mrs. Claus Negroni (gin, Campari, and vermouth), Santa’s Old Fashioned (Old Forester bourbon, holiday spice, bitters, and orange), and Blitzens Nog (Fernet-Branca, egg, cream, winter syrup, and nutmeg).

What makes it even more exciting is that nothing on the menu will be over $20.

And if that wasn’t enough to convince you, a portion of the proceeds from this project will go toward the museum’s daily operations.

“The idea came from being a long-time resident of Port Moody and driving by that amazing museum and train every day for literally years,” said Robert Belcham, one of the co-organizers of the event alongside Karl Gregg and the Rosie’s Hospitality team. He also added how cool he thought it would be to do a pop-up in Port Moody in this space.

“I contacted the PoMo Museum, and after some intensive chats that we had with their hard-working volunteer board, we came to a consensus on dates and scope. It was also very important for us to give back to the community, and this is why a portion of the proceeds go to the museum. To help them keep doing their great work.”

This pop-up is happening from 5 to 9 pm for six days only: December 5, 6, 12, 13, 21, and 22. Reservations are available online, but seating is limited, so you’ll want to act fast to guarantee a table.
