“On my way to buy a brush”: Metro Vancouver driver fined after cops didn’t buy excuse for snowy windshield

Winter weather in Metro Vancouver almost always guarantees that there are some drivers out there who will try to get away with not properly clearing snow from their vehicles.

That was the case on Tuesday morning in Burnaby, as police nabbed over 100 snow-covered vehicles in just two hours near Broadway and North Road.

But there was one particular driver who gave Burnaby RCMP quite a creative excuse for why their car wasn’t cleared of snow.

According to an X post, the individual was pulled over near Bainbridge Avenue and Lougheed Highway area.

Police said the individual was driving extremely slowly — 12 km/h in a 50 km/h zone — and holding up traffic, as 10 cars trailed behind their vehicle.

A photo of the driver’s white Honda shows a tiny portion of the windshield cleared of snow.

Police said that the driver claimed they were “on [their] way to the store to buy a brush” when they were pulled over.

The incident resulted in them being slammed with a $109 fine and two points on their driving record.

“Clear the snow off your vehicle,” wrote Burnaby RCMP. “We’re out educating and enforcing.”

Driving with an obstructed view can result in a $109 fine under Section 195 (1) (b) of the Motor Vehicle Act. The fine applies to not only a car’s front, rear, and side windows but also to the headlights and taillights.
