The Invictus Games brings together veterans and current serving members, including the wounded, injured, and sick, to compete in a variety of sports. The first Invictus Games took place in London, England, in 2014 and has since grown to be a worldwide event.
This year’s event will take place from February 8 to 16 in Vancouver and Whistler. More than 500 athletes will compete in 11 sports:
- Wheelchair Curling
- Wheelchair Basketball
- Skeleton
- Nordic Cross-Country
- Biathlon
- Alpine Skiing
- Snowboarding
- Wheelchair Rugby
- Swimming
- Sitting Volleyball
- Indoor Rowing
Canada has hosted the Invictus Games in the past, as Toronto was the home city back in 2017. However, this is the first time that Winter sports have been added to the Invictus Games.
The venues for the event include the Convention Centre, BC Place, Rogers Arena, Hillcrest, and the UBC Aquatics Centre.
Prince Harry has been spotted in Vancouver multiple times over the past year promoting the event. He was at a Canucks game last November and was back for the Grey Cup.
For music fans, the Jelly Roll concert will be one of the highlights of the event. He was nominated for “Best New Artist” at the Grammy Awards this year and has nearly 20 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
The opening ceremony will also feature some massive musicians, as Noah Kahan, Nelly Furtado, and Roxane Bruneau will all take the stage.
