The exterior “Winners” signs at the three-storey retail building at the northeast corner of the intersection of Robson Street and Granville Street in downtown Vancouver will soon be swapped for “Marshalls” signs.
Marshalls has confirmed that it will open a store within the former Winners space on the third floor of the building at 798 Granville Street, just above the Best Buy store.
This follows the closure of the longtime Winners store at the building in October 2024, which relocated to a nearby larger space of about 40,000 sq ft — spanning two levels within the former flagship Steve Nash Fitness Gym location at 660 Granville Street (next to SkyTrain Granville Station and the Hudson’s Bay building).
The downtown Vancouver Marshalls store will span roughly 30,000 sq ft. Last year, Daily Hive Urbanized reported that the building was listed for sale for its long-term redevelopment potential.
Both Marshalls and Winners are similar off-price clothing, apparel, and house goods retailers, owned and operated by the same parent company of TJX Companies.
When open on March 25, 2025, the downtown Vancouver Marshalls store will be the brand’s fifth location within the Lower Mainland, with the other locations situated on Marine Drive in South Vancouver, Central at Garden City in Richmond, Tsawassen Mills, Langley Centre, and Highstreet Mall in Abbotsford.
In June 2024, TJX Companies announced its strategy to open 1,300 new locations of its various discount retail brands, increasing its global footprint by 25%.
Various discount and low-cost retailers have also announced their pivot into an expansion mode, with consumer budgets shrinking due to growing costs and confidence in the economy and Canada’s fundamentals.
Just to the west of the former Victoria’s Secret space at the northeast corner of the intersection of Robson Street and Burrard Street, Adidas recently opened a 35,000 sq ft flagship store.
Another much-anticipated opening will also occur very soon, before Christmas 2024, just south of Marshalls; Cineplex will finally open its The Rec Room entertainment centre location, spanning 45,000 sq ft over three levels within the Granville Entertainment District.
