Last night’s Vancouver Canucks game was a historic one for budding star Jonathan Lekkerimäki.
The 20-year-old scored his first NHL goal with a rocket one-timer. The shot was measured at 93.38 miles-per-hour, showing off the wicked weapon the winger possesses.
To make matters even better, his parents, Ellinor and Peter, were at Rogers Arena and witnessed the moment in person.
The big screen panned to the couple, who were also at Jonathan’s NHL debut on Tuesday, directly after the milestone goal. They were emotional and waved to the cheering Rogers Arena crowd.
It was a heart-warming scene to see the player’s parents soak in a memory that they’ll surely never forget.
Absolutely priceless. 🥹

“It means a lot,” said Lekkerimäki about having his parents there. “First one, it’s really nice.”
“Happy for him,” continued Canucks captain Quinn Hughes about his teammate. “He’s going to have a long career and first of many.”
It was forward Pius Suter who rushed to collect the puck as the Canucks were celebrating the big goal. Lekkerimäki collected it after the game and told reporters it was heading back home to Stockholm, Sweden.
Memory that will last a lifetime.

This is the winger’s first full season playing in North America. He started the year in the AHL with the Abbotsford Canucks where he quickly started to post impressive numbers.
The Canucks called up Lekkerimäki last week, and he’s been given a prime opportunity to skate on a line with Miller. The winger has not looked out of place at all and is getting reps on the top power play unit.
There are 26 NHL rookies with at least one goal this season, including Lekkerimäki and teammate Arshdeep Bains. While there’s no guarantee that the Canucks Swedish forward will be sticking around long enough to catch up to the players at the top of the scoring leaderboard, he’s looking like he has the skills to do so.
