Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has issued a special weather alert for an incoming storm set to hit the south coast of BC tomorrow.
The alert warns of heavy downpours and strong winds. It is in effect for central parts of Metro Vancouver, including the City of Vancouver, Burnaby, and New Westminster, as well as for Howe Sound and the Sunshine Coast from Gibsons to Earls Cove.
The special weather statement states, “Rain will begin Sunday afternoon and will intensify Sunday evening before easing on Monday afternoon.”
Between 30 to 40 mm of rain is expected to fall by Monday morning, with the possibility of rainfall exceeding those amounts locally.
The statement also warns that the storm system will bring strong southeasterly winds on Sunday evening.
Yesterday, the City of Vancouver received an alert about the incoming weather and announced that additional shelter spaces will be open until Monday, November 11.
ECCC is warning the public of the hazards associated with the incoming storm system, including heavy rain and reduced visibility, washouts near rivers, creeks, and culverts, and tree branches breaking from the high winds and causing power outages.
