Holy Duck Chili Oil makes Air Canada’s list of “sauces worth flying for”

Air Canada has recently released its list of sauces worth flying for, featuring sauces from across the globe based on recommendations from its best new restaurants panellists, and Vancouver-based sauce company Holy Duck Chili Oil landed on the top.

The sauce was added to the list based on the recommendations of Carmen Cheng, a Calgary-based contributor to Avenue and founder of the Food Karma blog.

“Ingredients such as Canadian duck fat, mushroom and kombu powders, and bonito make this such a luscious and rich chili oil. It’s incredible with stir-fried noodles,” said Cheng.

What makes Holy Duck Chili Oil different from other chili oils is that it uses Canadian-rendered duck fat, which Holy Duck says “elevates the beloved Cantonese flavours” and adds a “tongue-titillating heat.”

“Thank you @aircanada‘s ‘Best New Restaurants Awards’ panellists for choosing HOLY DUCK OG CHILI OIL as one of the six chili sauces from all over the world to be deemed worth flying for,” said Holy Duck on Instagram.

Other sauces that made the list include Bachan’s The Original Japanese Barbecue Sauce from the US, Sauce Boss from Guyana, Sriraja Panich from Thailand, Heartbeat Hot Sauce Co.’s Camp Sauce from Ontario, and Lessig Ferments’ Strawberry Basil Bomb from Edmonton.

The coveted Vancouver sauce can be purchased in select stores and online for delivery.
