The extensive list of major sporting events coming to Vancouver continues to grow, and athletic aficionados will be excited to hear about a new event planned for this spring.
Vancouver Park Board has approved an application from the Professional Triathletes Organization and Do North Events to host the T100 Vancouver Multisport Festival special event from Friday, June 13 to Sunday, June 15, 2025.
Up to 12,000 participants would compete at Jericho Beach Park, Locarno Beach Park and surrounding areas during the international sporting event. It would also be the first T100 Multisport Festival to be held in Canada.
A recent report from the director of business services of the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation to the park board chair and commissioners recommended that the application be approved.
“The T100 Vancouver Multisport Festival presents a new and exciting opportunity to showcase Vancouver’s premier waterfront parks to a global audience, drive sport tourism and engage local community through various programs and initiatives.
“Park Board staff have carefully considered the various aspects of this application and are confident that this initiative can be executed successfully and as intended. Accordingly, staff recommend that the Board approve this application as outlined above.”
In 2024, the T100 held events in eight major world cities, including London, Singapore, Dubai, and San Francisco. The “F1 of Fitness” has announced it is expanding to two new cities in the new year.
Vancouver’s event would be sanctioned by World Triathlon, Triathlon Canada, and Triathlon BC. The “self-sustaining initiative” will also be supported and sponsored by the Vancouver Sport Hosting Grant Program and the Province of BC Hosting Grant Program.
The T100 Vancouver Multisport Festival will include elite women’s and men’s triathlon races, amateur races, junior and youth categories, school multisport activities, an open-water swim, and a 5 km Fun Run. The international event, which is free for spectators and broadcasters globally, will also showcase a local vendor expo, endurance sport summit, and VIP hosting.
Setup is slated to start on Monday, June 9, with teardown will be completed by the end of Tuesday, June 17. And there is a possibility of the festival returning to Vancouver in 2026.
Access to Jericho Beach Park and Locarno Beach Park will be limited during the T100 Vancouver Multisport Festival, which the report to the Park Board addressed.
“Staff recognize that sensitivities and concerns exist when access to public spaces is restricted, and as a result, consider all requests of this nature very carefully. Staff are supportive of pursuing this initiative due to the meaningful benefits that would accrue to the public, the Park Board, and community stakeholders.”
The T100 Vancouver Multisport Festival joins the Grey Cup Festival in November and the Invictus Games in February as huge sporting events coming to the city.
