Fans want Ryan Reynolds to buy the Vancouver Whitecaps

The Vancouver Whitecaps are up for sale, and many fans haven’t been shy in expressing who they hope to see purchase the team.

The team’s ownership group, which includes Greg Kerfoot, Steve Luczo, Jeff Mallett, and Steve Nash, recently released a statement about their intention to sell the club. They combined to take over the club together back in 2008.

The Whitecaps were valued at $420 million by Forbes last February, a price point that would take many hopefuls out of the running. There are also concerns that a new owner, or ownership group, may wind up moving the team. As a result, many fans are hoping that Ryan Reynolds, who happens to be from Vancouver, will step up.

Not only is Reynolds from Vancouver, but he also has experience in owning a sports team. He and fellow actor Rob McElhenney purchased Welsh football club Wrexham AFC late in 2020. They have since helped the club advance up several levels and gained a ton of exposure from the sports documentary television series Welcome to Wrexham.

Whether Reynolds has any interest in purchasing another team remains to be seen, but it would be a move that would go over well with many Whitecaps fans and could perhaps allow the team to stay in Vancouver.
