Family affair: Man to share $1 million lotto prize with brothers and daughter

After over 10 years of playing the lottery, Ontario resident David Gillis said he always had a feeling that the day would come when he’d win.

Turns out he was right because the father and grandfather recently won the $1 million top prize playing Instant Majestic.

In a release, Gillis shared that he has a special method of choosing his tickets.

“I always pick the ticket that’s second from the top of the display,” he explained.

He recalled that when he played his winning ticket, he was hit with shock.

“…When I realized I’d won the top prize, I screamed,” he explained. “I think I blacked out.”

Gillis took a few moments to collect himself and then walked out onto the balcony where he took a deep breath and shouted, “No way, just won $1 million!”

The first people he told about his win were his brother and daughter. “They were so excited that they started to scream, too,” he recalled.

The Ontario man said the $1 million prize still has him in disbelief.

“Since the day I uncovered my win, I haven’t been able to sleep. I’m just too excited!” shared the winner. “It feels like fireworks are going off one by one.”

He plans on investing some of his winnings and will also share the money with his daughter and brothers.

“I sensed this day would come, but I didn’t know when,” he added. “There are winning tickets out there. You just have to play to find them.”
