A windstorm that slammed BC’s South Coast on Saturday proved fatal for a woman in Surrey who died when a tree fell on her.
The 65-year-old woman was in her yard when high winds brought part of the tree crashing down. It happened in the area of 29th Avenue and 175th Street, according to Surrey Police Service Staff Sgt. Lindsey Houghton.
He described the incident as tragic.
“BC Emergency Health Services and Surrey Fire attended and life-saving measures were unfortunately unsuccessful,” Houghton told Daily Hive. He added her family has been connected with victim services.
The woman is the second person confirmed dead because of Saturday’s storm. Another body was found near the Sea to Sky Highway after a landslide engulfed their home. The home’s other occupant is still unaccounted for.
