A fall storm on its way to southern Vancouver Island and the BC South Coast is set to pummel the region with rain and high wind.
Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) has posted a special weather statement about the incoming inclement weather, calling the storm “significant.”
The storm is set to arrive Tuesday.
“Coastal areas will see southeasterly winds increase through the afternoon on Tuesday, with peak wind speeds expected for most areas on Tuesday night,” ECCC said. “Strong winds are likely to continue on Wednesday morning but should ease later in the day.”
Luckily, the worst of the storm isn’t expected to make landfall. Instead, it’s predicted to stay about 400 kilometres off the coast of Vancouver Island as it drifts north on Wednesday.
“Some areas can also expect heavy rain at times during this event, but winds will remain the primary concern,” ECCC said.
There’s also a snowfall warning for the Coquihalla Highway and a special weather statement about rain and wind for the Malahat Highway.
Short break between hail-thunder and next storm

The Lower Mainland should see a mix of sun and cloud on Monday before rain and wind slam the region on Tuesday.
