Ex-Calgary Flames player Olli Jokinen gives epic NSFW coaching speech

Olli Jokinen appears to still have the same passion and intensity for the game that allowed him to suit up for 1,231 games in the NHL.

Jokinen bounced around a ton in his NHL career, spending time with the Los Angeles Kings, Florida Panthers, New York Islanders, Calgary Flames, New York Rangers, Winnipeg Jets, Nashville Predators, Toronto Maple Leafs, and St. Louis Blues. Despite moving around so much, he was a solid player, racking up 321 goals and 750 points.

The 46-year-old, who retired after the 2014-15 season, continues to be involved in the game, now as a coach. He spent a few seasons behind the bench in Finland’s SM-Liiga before being hired this past offseason to be the head coach of Timra IK in the SHL.

Timra is having a solid season so far with an 18-11-2 record, and it may be in part to what appears to be some very motivational coaching from Jokinen.

“It’s not enough,” Jokinen said in part of the video released by Timra. “Is it f*cking satisfying to be fifth place, sixth place, whatever the f*cking case is? Let’s take [a] f*cking step now. Every f*cking game, every shift has to f*cking mean something. Time to f*cking step it up. We can still do something about it. Or [do] you want to let this slip away?”

It isn’t often that fans can see behind-the-scenes action of a coach talking to his team, which makes this video so great for hockey fans. It shows just how much coaches push to get the best out of their players on a nightly basis.

Given the attention this video has received on social media, don’t be surprised to see Timra release more clips like this from Jokinen in the future.
