The most wonderful time of the year has arrived, and the city’s largest and longest-running Christmas market is back to delight people of all ages this holiday season.
The Vancouver Christmas Market is transforming Jack Poole Plaza into a huge German-style holiday event until December 24, and tickets are on sale now.
A popular holiday tradition for locals and visitors alike, the Vancouver Christmas Market offers over 90 huts of authentic German sweets, treats, and treasures.
There are also a bunch of new food and activities to discover this year.
“Fifteen years ago, we founded the Vancouver Christmas Market to bring an authentic piece of our beloved German Christmas traditions to Vancouverites,” says Market Founder Malte Kluetz in a release. “Since then, we’ve been honoured to see millions of family and friends walk through our gates and make us a part of their annual holiday traditions.
“We’re the city’s longest-running outdoor Christmas market, which comes with the challenge of keeping the holiday spirit fresh and exciting – and this year, I think even St. Nick would agree that we’ve gone above and beyond.”
The Vancouver Christmas Market has added several new vendor huts for visitors to discover, including Linen Haus with fine French linens, Lumbo Woodshop’s hand-carved home goods and accessories, and Elfin Atelier’s handmade needle felt creations.
There are also several new treats that you’ll want to try this year, including Das Champignon Haus’ sauteed mushrooms with garlic sauce, Connie’s Cookie Haus’ freshly baked soft cookies, and Tofino Distillery’s handcrafted spirits. See the full list of food and drinks online.
And to help you keep warm during your visit, try the new feature drink, the Feuerzangenbowle (literally “fire tong punch”). The traditional German drink is a rum-soaked sugarloaf that is set on fire and drips into Glühwein.
Take a moment to sing along to the live entertainment on the Flying Stage on the second storey of the iconic Christmas Pyramid, and stroll through the walk-through tree with almost 15,000 lights. Make sure to bring a camera for all of your pictures with the holiday lights and the new Winterdeck photo op area.
Other festive experiences lined up for the market this year, including Taylor Swift and Christmas karaoke, Swiftie-themed trivia, a children’s Lantern Parade on November 24, and photos with St. Nick.
Of course, a visit to the market wouldn’t be complete without a ride on the carousel! This season, courtesy of the market’s sponsor Aeroplan, rides on the Aeroplan Holiday Carousel are free for all ages.
