If you’re craving a taste of spring before the season officially starts, the Japan Market in Vancouver is the perfect place to get your fill.
As one of the largest markets for Japanese-inspired products and food in the city, you’re guaranteed dozens of tasty food stalls and arts vendors to peruse. And although the list of participating vendors is not yet available for the spring market, co-founder Yuko Yoshida shares with us a number of highly anticipated performances and activities to look forward to this March.
For one, there will be a traditional Japanese tea ceremony, or Chado, by master instructor Yasuko Takahashi. The demonstration will offer a glimpse into the 400-year-old practice and its fascinating history. There will also be a demonstration of Japanese calligraphy by a well-known local Japanese calligrapher, Kisyuu, whose talent and dedication have earned her numerous accolades in both Japan and Canada.
“We feel very lucky that so many people support what we do, including sponsors, vendors, volunteers, and thousands of customers who come to our events,” Yoshida writes on the market’s website. “Thank you very much!”
The market is also bringing back a handful of beloved performers from years past, including Taiko drumming performances by Vancouver Okinawa Taiko, and Yosakoi (dance with traditional wooden instruments) by Appare Yosakoi Vancouver.
