Some students are getting a bit of a snow day as classes at some colleges and universities around Metro Vancouver have been impacted today.
Vancouver received a healthy bout of snow over the weekend, and more snow and freezing temperatures are expected as the day progresses.
While closures aren’t widespread at the moment, there are a few notable ones.
On Sunday night, UBC announced a closure for all in-person classes on Monday.

UBC’s website states that the campus is still open, but it has cancelled in-person learning out of an abundance of caution.
“Employees who perform necessary work are expected to come to work. All other staff should seek direction from their manager about whether alternative arrangements, such as working remotely, are appropriate. Managers may contact Human Resources for further information as required. Faculty and staff, please consult UBC’s Winter Weather Conditions Protocol (CWL required),” it adds.
BCIT
At around 6 am on Monday, BCIT announced that it was closing campus for in-person classes due to the weather. Exams are also cancelled, which is good news in case you forgot to cram.
BCIT adds, “Students who were scheduled to be on campus will receive communications from their instructor for directions on February 3 classwork.”
Capilano
Capilano has cancelled in-person learning at some, but not all, of its campuses.
“Our kálax-ay campus and North Vancouver Main Campus [are] closed this morning due to winter weather conditions. Our Lonsdale and Squamish campuses remain open. Faculty will advise students of alternate plans for classes,” Capilano University says on its website.
Kwantlen’s Langley and Cloverdale campuses are expected to be closed until noon today.
“At those campuses, in-person classes are cancelled, and on-campus services, including the library, are closed until noon,” Kwantlen says.
A decision about afternoon classes is expected at around 10 am.
We will update this story if any changes take place throughout the day.
