Canucks’ Sasson reacts to dad’s amazing celly after first NHL point

Saturday night was a special one for Vancouver Canucks rookie Max Sasson as he recorded his first NHL point with an assist on a Teddy Blueger goal.

It was a milestone that Sasson will surely remember for the rest of his career, but he may not have been the most excited person in the rink when it happened. His father was at the game and was absolutely fired up to see his son get onto an NHL scoresheet for the first time.

The moment went semi-viral with Canucks fans right after it happened, but Sasson wasn’t able to see his dad’s reaction until after the game. When he was doing a post-game interview with Sportsnet’s Kyle Bukauskas, a clip of the moment was shown to Sasson.

“Oh my goodness, no way,” Sasson reacted as he watched the clip. “That is awesome, oh my goodness… That’s as good as it gets; that’s super special, and honestly, I wouldn’t expect anything different from that.”

Apparently, this is par for the course for Sasson’s dad. He told reporters before his NHL debut that his dad was moved to tears when his son was called up to the Canucks. When Bukauskas asked Sasson what kind of hockey dad he had growing up, he answered perfectly.

“[My dad was] an intense one, but a proud father that always cheered me on and always believed in me,” Sasson said with a wide smile. “It’s funny that was his reaction to this first NHL point, but I think you could have found a triple-A goal of me with the same reaction.

“He’s always bringing the energy.”

The search is now on for Sasson’s first NHL goal, and the team better make sure his dad is at every game. Fans will want to see his reaction to that milestone as well.
